Kevin Schofield started working in the outdoor industry at age 11 and formally branded Schofield Outdoors in 2019. His background spans multiple trades, giving him an understanding of how landscape elements interact with drainage, grading, structures, and hardscape.
This multi-trade perspective means your landscape design accounts for practical considerations that many purely aesthetic designers miss. Drainage patterns, root growth near foundations, sun arc changes through seasons, and soil composition all factor into Kevin's design decisions.
Living and working in the Annapolis area for over two decades, Kevin understands which plants thrive in Anne Arundel County's specific conditions. The clay-heavy soils inland, the sandy coastal soils near the Chesapeake Bay, the salt spray exposure in Cape St. Claire and Arnold, and the wind patterns that affect plant placement are all part of his local knowledge base.

Maryland Native Plants We Recommend
Native plants are adapted to local soil, climate, and wildlife. They require less water, fewer chemicals, and provide habitat for pollinators.
Eastern Redbud
A stunning understory tree that blooms in early spring with pink-purple flowers before the leaves emerge. It thrives in Anne Arundel County's partial shade conditions and grows to 20-30 feet. Perfect as a focal point in front yard landscapes or as a flowering accent near patios.
Black-Eyed Susan

Yes, we stand behind our plant selections. Plants installed by Schofield Outdoors include a one-year warranty against defects and failure when proper care instructions are followed. We select plants that are proven performers in Anne Arundel County's climate, and we provide watering and care guidelines for every installation.
Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) are the ideal planting windows in Maryland. Spring installations benefit from the entire growing season to establish roots. Fall plantings take advantage of cool temperatures and autumn rains, with roots continuing to grow through mild Maryland winters. We can install during summer, but supplemental watering requirements increase significantly.
You do not need to be home during the entire installation, but we recommend being present for the start so Kevin can walk through the plan with you on-site. After the initial walkthrough, our crew handles everything. We send updates through Jobber and schedule a final walkthrough when the project is complete.
